Lelowhatsgood Conceives A New Genre With The Release of Debut EP in Collaboration with Dee Traits
Genre-bending international DJ, Lelowhatsgood is finally making his musical debut. Over the past few months, he has gently teased at new music, sneakily working unreleased bops into his sets.
This August, he announced the long-awaited release date for what will be a 7-track joint EP in collaboration with Dee Traits. The lead single, “Demons Kiss” is set for release on 26 August.
Comprised by BlaqMystique (S’fundo L Gcaba) and Roy (Mpendulo Shangase), Dee Traits are a dynamic house music duo based in Durban, South Africa. Dee Traits and Lelowhatsgood have joined forces to conceive a new sound they refer to as “Is’qinsi”, a cross blend of gqom and electronic music. Dee Traits highlights the soundscape by “the heavy kick and bass”, creating a distinctive listening experience for their new genre.
Over the years, Lelowhatsgood’s contributions to the entertainment space have been recognized through his commitment to entrenching ballroom culture in South Africa’s eventing landscape via Vogue Nights Jozi. As an event curator and DJ, he’s enthralled groovers around the world, recently returning from an expedition of the German groove scene.
Describing his relationship with gqom, Lelowhatsgood says, “For me, it means I can take a sound that’s very homegrown and infuse it with the inspirations I’ve been drawing from globally. Gqom is one genre that has been keeping steady as a DJ and to be able to release a project that takes it a step further also keeps me ahead of the curve.”
