Each offering by Ricky Tyler up until this point has hinted at his talent (and range), but his debut album Small World has solidified his place as one of the most talented emerging artists to come out of South Africa.
As musically rich as it is introspective, Tyler has managed to merge his songwriting and musicality in a way that delivers a cohesive and easy to listen to body of work. The 14-track album houses the melodies of contemporary R&B seamlessly paired with elements of hip-hop, which is where Ricky’s lyricism really shows out
The artist sees himself a part of the South African roster at the newly minted Def Jam Africa, and does a pretty good job of highlighting other talent from the continent, through some well-placed features on his latest project. This includes the track “Peachnut” with Nigerian artist and fellow UMG signee Alpha P.
